For this purpose, in 2016, researchers began developing a rocket that could test the very small voltages in the atmosphere. This NASA mission was launched from Svalbard, an island in Norway.

The island is a few hundred miles from the North Pole and researchers believed that it was the only place in our world where the presence of an ambipolar electric field could be identified.

According to the researchers, this electric field is formed by electrons, which are high in the air due to their thermal pressure.

The rocket flew 477 miles above the Earth’s surface and fell into the Greenland Sea 19 minutes after launch.

Data collected by the rocket at 322 miles above the Earth’s surface revealed an electric charge with a power of just 0.55 volts.

Because this electric field was just discovered, researchers can’t say for sure how much it played a role in the formation of Earth.

But they believe that it is probably because of this electric field that water still exists on Earth, while other planets like Venus and Mars have dried up.
