Cultivating a Greener Future: Osorno’s Young Pioneers of Regenerative Farming

The activity included talks on regenerative dairying, natural fertilization and sustainability, as well as a guided tour for young people to the Nestlé factory.

Last Thursday, September 26, the workshop “Learning about the future of agriculture: Regenerative Agriculture” was held, organized by the Agricultural Research Institute (INIA), linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with Nestlé Chile. The activity brought together about 30 high school students from agricultural technical schools in Osorno and surrounding areas, with the aim of training them on topics related to sustainable practices that are transforming the agricultural sector.

The national director of the INIA, Iris Lobos; the manager of Agricultural Strategy and Policy of Nestlé Chile, Enrique Vega and the deputy regional director of R&D of INIA Remehue, Claudio Salas welcomed the young people,

The day, which included technical talks, a discussion and a guided tour of the Nestlé dairy factory in Cancura, was attended by the national director of the INIA, Iris Lobos; the manager of Agricultural Strategy and Policy of Nestlé Chile, Enrique Vega; the deputy regional director of R&D of INIA Remehue, Claudio Salas; and INIA Remehue researchers Dr. Natalie Urrutia and Josué Lagos.

The national director of INIA, Dr. Iris Lobos O., pointed out that “this workshop is related to the importance of linking the sector and its different actors to promote transformations in the sector; to face the challenges that climate change has posed to us together with the new generations, disseminating the research and trends that they should know and apply in the future in the field. “It is the first activity that we carry out together with Nestlé Chile in this line to advance and generate strategies to retain that young talent in the sector and not emigrate to the city.”

The workshop included a talk by INIA Remehue researcher, Natalie Urrutia.

Finally, Enrique Vega from Nestlé Chile, presented the company’s initiatives and commitments in terms of sustainability and regenerative agriculture.

“We are very proud to have carried out this public-private activity that responds to two strategic Nestlé programs: our “Youth Initiative”, which seeks to strengthen youth employability in Chile, and the path we are leading in regenerative agriculture, a model that seeks to protect, renew and restore the environment, while promoting optimization processes in production and increasing performance, which we are implementing in the country together with our dairy producers,” Vega highlighted.
