Baltic Power Surge: Europe’s Energy Landscape Transformed by Massive Battery Park Breakthrough

The company “Baltic Storage Platform” was founded by the Estonian energy company “Evecon”, the company of solar energy storage solutions from France “Corsica Sole” and the manager of the fund for sustainable financing “Mirova”. Baltic Storage Platform aims to build two battery parks in Harju County, Estonia, with a total capacity of 200 megawatts and a total capacity of 400 megawatt hours. The first project should be put into operation by the end of 2025, and the establishment of the second park is scheduled for 2026.

“This is a historic moment for both Estonia and the entire Baltic energy sector for two reasons. First, it is an extremely important and realistic step in preparing for the synchronization of the Baltic countries. Secondly, no one has yet built such a large complex of battery parks in continental Europe. I believe that digging the cornerstone together with our excellent partners from Corsica Sole and Mirova will not be the last joint work. We will continue to work to ensure energy security in this area,” said Evecon CEO Karl Kull.

“We are proud to be able to use the knowledge gained from the implementation of energy storage system projects in the French islands. We are now exporting this experience to the rest of Europe to provide the services necessary to ensure the stability of electricity grids and promote the integration of renewable energy sources,” noted Corsica Sole CEO Michael Coudyser.

“We are especially proud to participate in the decarbonization of the Baltic States. We will achieve the goals of energy independence by implementing new clean energy production and storage systems. At the beginning of the relationship between our partners Corsica Sole and Evecon, we made a very logical decision to strengthen the financial resources of their joint energy storage platform in order to install more storage facilities in the Baltic States. This important event speaks of Estonia’s ambitions to develop local energy storage systems. We are happy to support them with our strategic investments in energy transformation,” added Raphael Lance, Head of Mirova’s Energy Transformation Funds.

“Estonia has a clear goal – by 2030, the electricity we consume must come from renewable sources. Energy storage plays an important role here, because we need to store solar and wind energy for those moments when nature will not be able to provide it. The development of storage systems helps ensure a clean, reliable and affordable energy future for the people of Estonia,” said the country’s climate minister Yoko Alender.

The battery park under construction and its substation will be connected to the electricity transmission network with a 330 kV AC underground cable. It will also be the first in Estonia.
