Cross-Residence(s) 2024-2025 and Workshops

Artist: Chia LEE

Since 2016, the Faculty of Education has been hosting an artist residency every autumn on its Montpellier campus. Concurrently, the Florian nursery school has established a yearly residency program with the MO.CO. In 2020, these two residencies merged into a single course. The 2024-25 edition of Cross Residence(s) will be the fourth iteration of this tripartite collaboration. This endeavor welcomes Chia LEE, a Taiwanese artist.

The cross-residency consists of three main components: a residency at FDE-UM in fall 2024 (featuring creation, a personal exhibition, and workshops), a residency at the Florian school in partnership with the MO.CO. in spring 2025 (including creation, workshops, and an exhibition for parents), and a restitution phase in May-June 2025, where the artistic works of the students and the artist will be showcased at the Faculty of Education.

Chia LEE is a multidisciplinary Taiwanese artist working with video installations that incorporate various materials. Her work delves into the fluidity between humans and non-humans, including animals, plants, and objects. As part of Cross Residence(s), centered around the theme of the Arts of Taste, Chia will reflect on different types of culinary exchanges, including market transactions, sharing cooking techniques, food experiences, and the circulation of molecules and energy within food practices.

During her residency, Chia LEE will conduct creative workshops for the students, teachers, and staff of the Faculty of Education. As she navigates between two cultures driven by gourmet curiosity, she will introduce fused flavors to her workshops, inviting participants to explore novel connections between art and food. The residency will culminate in a market-style presentation, where the resulting ideas and creations will be shared with the public. Join Chia and discuss your experiences with food, culture, and art!
