Essap intensifies deepening and dredging work due to critical downspout of the Paraguay River

Asunción, IP Agency.- In response to the critical downflow of the Paraguay River, the Sanitary Services Company of Paraguay (Essap) has begun work to deepen the canal that supplies raw water to the Mariano Roque Alonso treatment plant.

This procedure, carried out with a tracked backhoe from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), aims to guarantee the supply of raw water to the plant, since the river, due to the water crisis, had stopped flowing naturally. towards the water intake.

Since Thursday, teams from the Works portfolio, with the collaboration of Essap and the Remanso Naval Prefecture, have been working on the opening of the canal. The efforts continue, ensuring that water flows towards the intake again.

The aforementioned work has allowed a contribution of 280 cubic meters of water per hour to the Mariano Roque Alonso treatment plant, located 2 km from the intake.

This Saturday, with teams from the National Administration of Navigation and Ports (ANNP), in coordination with Essap, similar work is being carried out at the raw water intake located in the bay of Asunción.

In this case, the dredging method will be used, which consists of sucking the mud from the bottom of the river through a pipe and discharging it at another point, thus allowing the water to flow freely again to the intake. This work will benefit the Parque Solidaridad treatment plant.

In addition, the Puerto Asunción plant, with a capacity of 700 cubic meters per hour, will continue to supply the neighborhoods of Sajonia and part of Barrio Obrero. Likewise, similar works have been planned in the city of Limpio, where ESSAP will serve the Villa Jardín plant.

These actions are part of the urgent measures that the Government is implementing to face the current water crisis and guarantee the continuity of the drinking water service for the population, Essap reported.
