Brazil and Colombia denounce lack of guarantees against the Venezuelan opposition

The governments of Brazil and Colombia did not hide their concern about the obstacles imposed on opposition figures who sought a space as candidates for the presidential elections in Venezuela.

The common theme is the CNE’s obstacles to Corina Yoris, chosen by María Corina Machado for the process.

From Brasilia, the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva He explained that he is closely following how the July 28 election takes shape and emphasized the situation of the Unitary Platform.

“It is noted that the candidate (Corina Yoris) nominated by the Unitary Platform, an opposition political force, about which there were no judicial decisions, was prevented from registering, which is not compatible with the Barbados agreements. To date, the impediment has not been the subject of any official explanation.”The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Colombia was not left behind. For the administration of Gustavo Petro, the north is to comply with the Barbados agreementa document signed last year by the ruling party and the opposition.

Although the neighboring country indicated that it respects Venezuelan sovereignty and the autonomy of its people, it highlighted “the need for a free, fair and competitive presidential electoral process”.

The statements from Brazil and Colombia add to the claims of countries such as the United States and France, as well as the European Union.
