The 2024 World Championship Track will be held in Denmark from October 16th to 20th. This event is held once a year to determine the world No. 1 in track and field.
Approximately two and a half months have passed since the decisive battle in Paris, marking the start of a new four-year period leading up to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
In this article, we will introduce notable athletes in the short-distance events of this event, based on the entry list published on the UCI official website.

Men’s notable players
Harry Lovereisen (Netherlands)
The most notable one is definitely Harry Loveracen. He has reigned as the absolute champion of men’s short distance for many years, and achieved undisputed results by dominating all three events at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
At the 2023 World Championship Track Championships, Lovereisen won gold in the sprint and team sprint, but finished 4th in the keirin, narrowly missing out on the triple crown. Expectations are high for a “complete victory” following the Olympics.

From the Netherlands, Geoffrey Hoefland and Roy Vandenberg, who won the team sprint in Paris with Lovereisen, are also scheduled to participate.
Kevin Quintero (Colombia)
A Colombian sprinter who won the keirin at the 2023 World Championship Track.
At the Paris 2024 Olympics, he was unable to advance to the finals in each event, a disappointing result. As the defending champion, he aims to return to the podium.
Nicholas Paul (Trinidad and Tobago)
Nicholas Paul won the silver medal in the sprint at the 2023 World Championships Track.

Like Kevin Quintero, although he did not perform well in Paris, he has achieved world-class results and is one of the leaders of Trinidad and Tobago’s growing cycling competition.

Emma Finucan (UK)
Emma Finucan is one of the new stars in women’s sprinting.
A young sprinter who won his first Arcencier in the “2023 World Championship Track Sprint” and competed in Paris with a good result in the 2024 Nations Cup.
In his first appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, he won three medals and proved his strength to the world.

Hettie van der Vouou (Netherlands)
Hetty van der Vouw was one of the players who showed an impressive performance in Paris.
Although he won once in the team sprint at the 2023-2024 Olympic Trials, he did not have any other notable achievements.
However, at the Paris Olympics, his first appearance, he achieved good results, finishing 4th in the sprint and 2nd in the keirin. Expectations are high whether he can continue to prove his strength at the World Championships.
Mathilde Gros (France)

After winning his first Arcencier in the 2022 World Championship Track Sprint, he won the 2024 Nations Cup Round 3 Sprint by winning the final against Elles Andrews.
He competed in the Paris Olympics in his home country, where he appeared to be in good shape, but was unable to advance to the finals in both the sprint and keirin events and was defeated.
It will be interesting to see if he can use his frustration as a springboard to make a comeback to the podium.

This is a short-distance event in which several medalists from the Paris 2024 Olympics, both male and female, have opted out.
