Henrik has shown the way – both he and the head of the academy hope that others will follow his example

We turn back the clock to May. The place is Gigantium, and the occasion is initially Aalborg Handball’s DM semi-final against Skjern. Before the match, there is a tribute to the team of the year in the handball league. It is the players themselves who have voted on which colleagues have done the best.

As the players are announced, three thybos enter the floor. Laughing and smiling, they can be amused by the fact that they have found their way to the league’s all star team at the same time. Together, they form the backbone of this year’s selected league team.

These are Mads Hoxer, Frederik Tilsted and Nicolaj Jørgensen.

While the two former have both used Mors-Thy Handball as a platform for a breakthrough in the league, the story is a little different with Nicolaj Jørgensen, who originates from Hanstholm. He has had a trip to Kolding and Maribo to land as the league’s immediate top scorer.

– It says something that what you do up here is right. It was extremely cool to stand there with two I have played with and know very well, says Nicolaj Jørgensen, who was not quite so happy to lose 30-25 to Mors-Thy together with Sønderjyske.

Nicolaj Jørgensen joins the small army of former academy players in Mors-Thy who are today profiles in the Danish league.

– There are only three clubs in the Danish league that do not have a former youth player from us in the squad, says Lars Svane, head of academy in Mors-Thy.

Read the article to the end to get the answer to which three clubs are involved.
