V. Zelenskis is considering whether to hold elections in 2024 – the minister

Due to martial law, which has been in place since the start of the war, all elections, including the presidential election scheduled for next spring, are technically cancelled.

“I think there is no other country in the world that would even consider holding elections in the circumstances of such a large-scale invasion,” Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said at the conference.

“However, we are not closing this page. The President of Ukraine considers and weighs various arguments for and against,” he said.

The minister warned that due to the large number of Ukrainians abroad and soldiers fighting at the front, it will be difficult to hold the elections.

D. Kuleba also said that he fears that the election precincts could become a perfect target for Russian drones or missile strikes.

Parliamentary elections due last month were also called off due to the war.

Zelenskiy, who was elected in 2019, said in September that he was ready to hold elections if necessary and advocated allowing international observers to participate in the vote.

Ukraine’s leader’s approval ratings have soared since the start of the war, but the country’s political landscape remains divided despite being united by the war.
