Did your Facebook get hacked? Don’t panic and follow these recommendations

Ciudad Juárez.- The State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE), through the Cyber ​​Police, called on Chihuahua citizens to maintain security on social networks, and thereby prevent the theft of personal or banking data.

In this context, the population was recommended to update the passwords of their social networks, in order to avoid data leakage electronically.

Additionally, in the event of losing access to the social network Facebook, you must take into account the following steps to carry out an adequate and safe recovery:

  • Recover your account if you forgot your password: Click Forgot your password? and write your email or associated cell phone number. You will receive a link by email or SMS to reset your password.
  • Recover account if you forgot your email or cell phone number: Go to facebook.com/login/identify, enter the information you do remember (email or cell phone) to receive an access code.
  • Recover account without access to email, number or password: Access the Facebook Help Center and verify your identity with an official document. This process can take several weeks and must be done from a computer.
  • Recover account if it was stolen or hacked: Report the incident at Report a Compromised Account and follow the instructions.

Remember that when recovering the account, you must use a strong password, also activate two-step verification.

In the event that the account has been “hacked”, it must be reported in the Report compromised account link and follow the instructions.

It is also possible to report a fake or impersonation account by accessing the link: Fake account form and completing the form.

The SSPM stressed the importance of activating two-step verification, as this will add an extra step of security to your social network.

The procedure is simple by accessing Settings and privacy > Settings > Password and security > Two-step authentication, click Edit, select one of these methods to add verification:

  • Security key
  • Authentication app
  • SMS codes

Once activated, you will receive 10 recovery codes.

Avoid being a victim of account theft by not sharing codes received by SMS or email, and also avoid opening suspicious links.
