From Friday morning, the judging panel led by curator, writer, director of Kohta, a private art center in Helsinki founded on the initiative of artists, Andres Kreuger, selected the 7 best galleries of the ArtVilnius’24 fair, the best exhibition artist, the best young artist and the best sculpture of the fair. or installation.

Prizes are awarded to the best artists

The commission awarded the name of the best artist of “ArtVilnius’24” to painter Egle Gineityte, who is presented by “The Room Gallery” at the fair, for her consistent painting vision that has matured over several decades. The artist will also receive a €3,000 bonus from Crème de la Crème, a representative of high-end perfumery brands.

The best installation of “ArtVilnius’24” was announced next to Litexpo, the sculpture “For sale” by one of the participants of “Tako”, the creator of conceptual interdisciplinary art Danas Aleks. The commission appreciated this work for its commentary on the renovation of the city of Kandy, emphasizing the specific aesthetics of Vilnius. The author of the best sculpture was awarded a prize of 2,000 euros, which was established by the sponsor of the fair, Nescafé Dolce Gusto.

The prize for the best young artist of the fair, which is traditionally awarded by the patron of ArtVilnius, the law firm Cobalt, went to Rachel Libeskind, an artist of Italian origin residing in New York. Her work, presented by the Dusseldorf gallery wildpalms, is marked by a poetic articulation of archival material and visual space. The artist will receive a nomination certificate and a cash prize of 2,000 euros.

The 7 best galleries of “ArtVilnius’24” are traditionally announced on the opening night. The commissioners appreciated their vivid programs and well-prepared, well-thought-out expositions.

According to the chairman of the commission, A. Kreuger, Antanas Sutkaus’ photo archive is a classic presentation of the master’s work. “Obviously, the high quality must be mentioned,” said the chairman of the commission.

“In Dot Gallery” was noted for the presentation of the talented Lithuanian painter Viktoras Paukštelis. “What this gallery shows is visually convincing,” said A. Kreuger.

The Pilot Gallery of the Latvian Academy of Arts was mentioned among the winners for its spacious, interesting installation of the collection.

The commission also appreciated the “GODÒ” gallery located in Vilnius Užupy – for its compact and evocatively composed colorful painting.

Māksla XO, one of the most famous and popular contemporary art galleries in Riga, has been praised for its highly visually appealing presentation of graphics and paintings, as well as Latvian authors that are not often shown.

“The Room Gallery” for the art fair “ArtVilnius’24”, in the opinion of the commission, prepared a very convincing presentation of representatives of Lithuanian art of various generations and showed high-quality works to the visitors of the fair.

“wildpalms”, a gallery from Düsseldorf representing various artists from Latin America, Canada and the United States, was awarded for the elegant presentation of interesting and previously unseen authors in Lithuania.

The fair will continue on Saturday and Sunday

80 art galleries and institutions, 300 artists from 14 countries of the world are located in the three main halls of the center and the field – an area of ​​12 thousand square meters. The program organizers and curators of the international contemporary art fair “ArtVilnius’24” have prepared a wide program of discussions and educations for the visitors of the fair.

The main gallery program of ArtVilnius’24 and Litexpo stands are located in halls 5 and 3.

14 artists have been selected for the international exhibition of sculptures, installations and performances “Takas”, curated by Maria Arusoo, head of the Estonian Center for Contemporary Art, and three more –

Estonian sculptors Edith Karlson and Terje Ojaver and Finnish Anni Puolakka were invited by the curator herself to participate in the exhibition.

In the exhibition “Takas” you can see the works of Lithuanian artists – Dan Aleksa, Eglė Pilkauskaitė, Indrė Liškauskaitė, Kęstutis Svirnelis, Laima Kulbytė, Ludvikos Kesmins, Matas Janušonis, Monika Žaltauskaitė-Grašienė, Saulė Noreikaitė, Severija Inčirauskaitė-Kriaunevičienė, Žygimantas Bėrontos, Žilvinos Baranauskas, the works of Estonian artists Keithy Kuuspu and Zody Burke.

Performances will be presented by “KITA” gallery from Finland and “Sami Center for Contemporary Art” from Norway. They will be performed by Erikas Alalooga (Estonia), Tomasz Szrama (Poland), Marija Griniuk (Norway/Lithuania).

Curator of contemporary art, writer dr. Valentinas Klimašauskas named the project zone program of this year’s international fair “ArtVilnius’24” “Agency: about mice, stage and machines”. Among the participants of the project zone this year, it will be possible to see Lithuanian artists – Igor Piekurs, presented by MTR Art foundation, Stasis Eidrigevičius, Jonas Anič, Gabija Grušaitė, Rytis Urbanskas, presented by Stasys Museum, the project of Lesia Vasylchenko, a Ukrainian based in Norway, for the Estonian pavilion at the Venice Biennale who represented Edith Karlson and Katja Novitskova and other artists and art institutions.

Throughout the days of the fair, visitors will be able to choose their favorite artist and gallery. The “Art Vilnius’24” audience’s selected artist and selected gallery will be awarded “Volfas Engelman” prizes on Sunday at the “ArtVilnius Talk” studio.

The contemporary art fair “ArtVilnius’24” is organized by the Association of Lithuanian Art Gallerists.
