1-0 win for FCB – defeat in the crisis summit: YB keeps the red lantern – sport
  • FC Basel won the crisis duel with the champions from Bern in the 9th round of the Super League 1-0.
  • The only goal for FCB, who had the majority for over 50 minutes, was scored with a header by Adrian Barisic.
  • There are no winners in the other games on Sunday: FCZ and Lugano as well as St. Gallen and Servette draw 1-1.

The decisive scenes in St. Jakob-Park occurred shortly before half-time. First, Sandro Lauper went down in the Basel penalty area after slight contact with FCB player Romario Baro. The VAR intervened and informed referee Luca Cibelli to look at the scene himself. After a while the referee returned and decided against a penalty.

Just 90 seconds later, Cibelli was once again at the center of the action. After Lauper tackled Bénie Traoré’s ankle with his outstretched leg, he drew a red card. The FCB subsequently took advantage of the majority and ultimately achieved a deserved 1-0 win.

Barisic and Hitz as match winners

The golden goal went to central defender Adrian Barisic. The Bosnian went highest on a free kick from Xherdan Shaqiri in the 52nd minute and skillfully headed the ball into the right corner. After taking the lead, the Basel team quickly looked for a second goal, but Kevin Carlos had his best opportunity hit the crossbar after an hour with his header.

So it remained exciting until the end. And the Bernese actually had an excellent chance to equalize 10 minutes before the end. Marwin Hitz was there for Mohamed Ali Camara’s header and made a miraculous save. Things became dangerous again in the FCB penalty area in stoppage time, but the home team managed to win over time.

Animated start to the game

At the beginning of the game there was an open exchange of blows. The first real chance belonged to YB wing Filip Ugrinic, who directed a cross onto the outside post in the 15th minute. As a result, Traoré had two good chances with the “Bebbi” and YB full-back Jaouen Hadjam, but their shots were too imprecise.

Thanks to the threesome, FCB managed to get over the top again. As sixth in the table, Fabio Celestini’s team is only 5 points behind leaders Lucerne. With his counterpart Patrick Frame, the air is getting very thin. At the Nati break, the Bernese take over the red lantern from Winterthur, which YB overtook yesterday thanks to the 1-0 win against GC, with still only one win.

This is how it continues

After the international break, both teams will continue in two weeks. YB welcomes the leader from Lucerne as bottom on Saturday. Meanwhile, FCB wants to move closer to the top of the table in the home game against St. Gallen.
