More than 200 thousand residents fled from Lebanon to Syria

MORE than 200,000 Syrians and Lebanese have fled to Syria to escape the impact of Israel’s attack on Lebanon which has been ongoing since September 23. This was said by UN officials.

“More than 200,000 people – Lebanese and Syrians living in Lebanon – left Lebanon and crossed into Syria as a result of Israeli air strikes,” said UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, Saturday (5/10).

Following Israel’s ground invasion of Southern Lebanon, exchanges of fire between Israeli soldiers and Lebanese Hezbollah fighters continued.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said that an Israeli air strike on the Masnaa border post in Lebanon on Friday caused traffic on the Beirut-Damascus highway to a complete stop and cut off the main route through which the refugees passed.

Earlier on Wednesday (2/10), Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that around 1.2 million people in Lebanon, including Syrian refugees, were forced to flee due to the Israeli attack.

Meanwhile, Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad stated on Thursday (3/10) that nearly 2,000 people were killed and 9,000 others were injured as a result of Israeli attacks on a number of areas in Lebanon. (Ant/Z-2)
