The US announced a new 425 million USD worth of military aid to Ukraine

The equipment, along with small arms ammunition and demolition munitions, among others, is part of a $125 million US dollars (116.8 million euros) worth of equipment, which will be supplied from the military stocks available in the United States.

The package also includes 300 million USD (280 million euros) worth of laser-guided anti-drone munitions, which will be funded by the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).

That means these tools won’t be on the battlefield right away, as the munitions must be purchased from the defense industry or partners, rather than taken from America’s stockpiles.

A Pentagon statement said the funding for USAI was provided under a continuing resolution passed by Congress in late September to temporarily fund the government.

But now it’s gone: the statement said the package “uses up the remaining USAI funds currently available to support Ukraine.”

The Pentagon also advocated aid to Ukraine, saying it was a “wise investment in our national security.”

“It helps prevent greater conflict in the region and deters potential aggression elsewhere, while strengthening our defense industrial base and creating high-skilled jobs for Americans,” the statement said.

The United States is perhaps the largest provider of security support to Ukraine – since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the United States has provided more than $44.2 billion. US dollars (41.3 billion euros).

But some hard-line Republicans oppose continued support for Kyiv, putting the future of American aid to Ukraine in doubt.
