What are the competitions
These include various medical and surgical specialties, diagnostics and the area of public health.
We had talked about it in a previous report in our online newspaper (click here to read it) and now the time has come for interested doctors to submit applications.
These are the following competitions:
– 22 places in cardiology, 14 in internal medicine, 8 in neonatology and 3 in physical medicine and rehabilitation (as regards the medical area and medical specialties);
– 13 places in general surgery and 1 place in ophthalmology (as regards the surgical area and surgical specialties);
-7 places in radiodiagnostics and 5 in clinical pathology (as regards the area of diagnostic medicine and services);
-10 positions in food hygiene and nutrition and 2 in occupational medicine and workplace safety (as regards the public health area).
Who can participate
Doctors in possession of the specialization required for each competition and specialists enrolled at least in the second year of the relevant course can participate.
In fact, at the end of the selection procedure, two distinct rankings will be drawn up: one with suitable candidates already specialized and the other with those specializing.
Obviously, the first ranking will be used until the places to be filled are filled. In the event that the first ranking is not sufficient to cover all the advertised positions, the second ranking will be used and priority – according to the order of classification – will be given to doctors who have specialized in the meantime.
If other advertised and unassigned positions remain, the ranking of specialists will be used for temporary hiring which will then be transformed into a permanent one starting from the achievement of the specialization.
Competition process
Applications for the competitions must be submitted online via the IT platform of the ASP of Agrigento.
The application could be submitted as early as last Saturday and in any case there is time until one second before midnight on November 4th (click here to access the IT platform).

After the appointment of the examining commission, the competition can be completed and the participants will be able to take the exam tests: written, practical and oral. Those who pass the three tests will be included in the merit rankings (the main one and that of the specialists) which will also take into account the qualifications held and evaluated by each competitor.
Once the competition commission has completed its work, it sends the minutes and rankings to the General Director of the ASP who decides on their approval, giving the human resources office a mandate to stipulate the individual employment contract with the winners of the competition.
The wishes
Obviously the procedures will be very quick, taking into account the shortage of medical staff in the various hospitals.
However, it is hoped that many competitors will participate and that all advertised places will be filled.
But past experience does not lead to optimistic forecasts.
For example, the competition to fill 31 medical director positions to be hired in the emergency rooms of the hospitals of Agrigento, Sciacca, Canicattì, Licata and Ribera turned out to be a flop, since only 13 candidates showed up, of which 3 were still trainees , obviously all eligible in their respective rankings.
The hope is that this will not happen in these competitions, although there is a risk: especially for positions in cardiology and surgery.
