“Konfis bake bread for the world” is celebrating its anniversary

The tenth anniversary of the “5,000 loaves – confis bake bread for the world” campaign will be celebrated on Sunday with a celebratory service in Berlin’s Gethsemane Church.

Among those expected to open this year’s campaign are the President of the Central Association of the German Bakery Trade, Roland Ermer, and the Berlin Protestant Bishop Christian Stäblein.

Proceeds for “Bread for the World”

As part of the campaign, which was launched in 2014, thousands of confirmation candidates bake bread in bakeries every year, which is then given away in return for donations.

The proceeds go to development projects run by the church aid organization “Bread for the World”. The motto of the campaign “5,000 loaves” refers to the biblical story of feeding the five thousand.

As a global development organization for the Protestant churches in Germany, “Bread for the World” says it is active in more than 90 countries around the world. Together with local partners, the aid organization aims to improve the living conditions of poor and marginalized people. The central focus of the work is food security. “Bread for the World” supports the poor and rural population in achieving good yields using environmentally friendly and location-appropriate methods.
