DEPUTY Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said that his party would discuss again the issue of lifetime pension benefits received by DPR members. Dasco admitted that he received a lot of input and criticism from the public regarding this lifetime allowance. Later, input and criticism will be discussed at the next session meeting.
“So, indeed, there has been a lot of input from the community and indeed we will review it, we consider it as aspirations from the community which are addressed to the DPR RI. So it is not only aspirations regarding development in the regions but also includes aspirations regarding the DPR itself. And we will bring this into meeting for the upcoming session,” said Dasco at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Friday (4/10).

As previously reported, lifetime allowances for members of the DPR are regulated in Law Number 12 of 1980 concerning Financial/Administrative Rights of Leaders and Members of Highest/Higher State Institutions as well as Former Leaders of Highest/Higher State Institutions and Former Members of Highest State Institutions. Pension money is regulated in Article 13 of the Law. These regulations are detailed in the Letter of the Minister of Finance Number S-520/MK.02/2016 and the Circular Letter of the Secretariat General of the DPR RI Number KU.00/9414/DPR RI/XII/2010.
People’s representatives have the right to pocket a pension of 60% of their basic salary. However, the amount for each member can vary, depending on the position or position held.
Lifetime allowances have attracted polemics and been under public scrutiny. This is because DPR members who normally serve for five years will receive a pension or lifetime allowance. (D-3)
