Mikati said in a statement, “Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s attack on President Emmanuel Macron simply because he demanded to stop delivering weapons to Israel to fight in Gaza and considering that the priority is a political solution instead of continuing the war proves the correctness of the French position.”
Mikati considered that “what Macron said expresses lofty human values, in advocating for truth, stopping violence, and resorting to peaceful solutions that remove the specter of wars and killing,” and said: “It is not surprising that this position was met with clear hostility from Netanyahu, who constitutes a disgrace to all of humanity.”
Mikati added, “We in Lebanon have experienced the honorable positions of President Macron in supporting Lebanon, its stability and sovereignty, and his tireless efforts to stop the continuing Israeli aggression against our people and our land. We renew our support for the joint appeal issued by France and the United States, with the support of the European Union and Arab and foreign countries, and we call for pressure on Israel.” To adhere to the ceasefire and implement Resolution 1701 immediately.”
Macron said in a statement earlier, “The priority at this moment must be to stop the flow of weapons that are fueling the conflict.”
He called on the French President to stop arming Israel, stressing that Paris did not supply it with weapons during its war on the Gaza Strip.
Macron added, “The priority today is to return to a political solution and stop delivering weapons to Israel to fight battles in Gaza.”
Macron also criticized the Israeli Prime Minister for not taking France’s position into consideration, saying: “Not listening to us is a mistake in terms of Israel’s security future.”
In a related context, he expressed his refusal to “turn Lebanon into another Gaza.”
