Doctors decide to go on two warning strikes

Q. Internists and residents went on two warning strikes on Tuesday, October 8 and Thursday, October 10, against the backdrop of protest against what they described as “the Ministry’s delay in responding to their file of demands.”

According to a statement from the National Committee for Internists and Residents, emergency services, resuscitation, intensive care, and emergency services are excluded from this strike.

The internists said, “After a series of meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Health, which led to several important agreements regarding their request file, we were once again surprised by the Ministry’s delay in making a written commitment to these agreements, which led to widespread dissatisfaction among the internists and residents.”

The committee called on the Ministry of Health and its representatives to avoid other crises that hinder the normal functioning of university hospitals by dealing with their demand file seriously and quickly, stressing that they will move “to escalation in the future if their legitimate demands are not responded to effectively.”

Internists and residents are demanding that the compensation of non-contracted residents be made 12,000 dirhams, given that they provide the same services as their contracted counterparts and have the same diploma, and that the compensation of interns be raised to 10,000 dirhams, given that they perform important services in hospital departments, as well as their essential role in emergency services.

They also call for reforming the assessment of the specialty exam, by raising the value of the training and continuous training points coefficient, reducing the value of the end-of-specialization exam, giving the right to a remedial course, and improving residency training through a pedagogical controls book for medical, pharmacy, and dental specialties that includes clear indicators of mastery of the theoretical aspects. And applied specialization, and other demands, as well as maintaining the current regular situation with regard to the interior and residence and increasing attractiveness, while rejecting the formula for automatic transfer of contract residents to territorial health groups similar to the rest of the employees of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
