At least 24 killed and almost 100 injured after attack on mosque in Gaza

Both buildings are located in the Deir al-Balah area, in the center of the Gaza Strip. The buildings were no longer used as mosques and schools, but as shelters for several displaced Palestinians. Reuters first refers to health personnel who said on the night of Sunday that at least five people were killed and 20 wounded.

Early on Sunday morning, the figures were updated by the Palestinian news agency Wafa, which reported at least 18 dead and several dozen wounded. Later in the morning, the figure was further revised upwards, to 24 killed, as Reuters cited the Hamas-run Gaza government.

The attack takes place the day before October 7, which marks exactly one year since the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas.

The IDF says the attack was aimed at Hamas fighters, who it claims had a command center under the Ibn Rushd school and the Shuhada al-Aqsa mosque.

– The IDF carried out a precision strike against Hamas terrorists who were operating inside a command and control center in the building that formerly served as the Shuhada al-Aqsa mosque in the Deir al-Balah area, a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said. night to Sunday.

This was another example of how Hamas uses civilian infrastructure, in violation of international law, says the IDF’s statement.

Neither the information on the number of people killed nor the content of the IDF’s statements has been verified.
