Thunberg was carried away by police officers on Saturday, a journalist from the AFP news agency observed. Together with other climate activists, she blocked a road in the Belgian capital. She did not comply with a request from the police to voluntarily end the sit-in.
The sit-in by a small group of demonstrators took place parallel to a protest march against fossil fuel subsidies that began in front of the headquarters of the European Parliament. The demonstration was organized by the group United for Climate Justice. Thunberg has been temporarily arrested several times in the past during protests in various countries.
