With the film “The Silent Maid” it starts on Monday 7 October at Option Cinemas in Veso Mare at 7 pm and 9.30 pm.

As Yiannis Cantea Papadopoulos reports: “Ana is an immigrant from Colombia, who works as a domestic helper in the luxurious country house of a wealthy Spanish family. Her plan is simple: to raise as much money as she can for her sister’s studies, but also manage to get papers to stay in the country. Everything is going well, until the atmosphere inside the house starts to change against her and, at the same time, Ana experiences experiences that push her to readjust her priorities.

In his debut, Catalan director Miguel Faus joins the trend seen in recent years in world cinema, which wants many creators to fight against the greed of the upper classes. A recent example is the Palme d’Or award-winning “Triangle of Sorrow”, as well as the masterpiece “Roma”, which in terms of plot moves in a similar context to Faust’s film.

If, therefore, in the case of “Roma” the oppressor-oppressed relations are used to symbolize the sweeping changes that take place in an entire country, in the case of “The Silent Maid” the action remains more at the level of intentions, without making a fresh comment on the class struggle taking place within four walls. Of course, this does not mean that the first-time director does not have a look with distinct virtues, since he chooses his heroine to awaken through the assertion of her romantic desires and, subsequently, to be emancipated by having an unexpected and ally. In general, the only thing missing is that element of surprise that would make the film clearly more impressive”.
