The song of the sea will be the center of the Cartagena Music Festival – ELTIEMPO.COM

From January 4 to 12, 2025, the Cartagena Music Festival will take place again, which is now in its 19th edition and which on this occasion will have ‘The song of the sea’ as its theme.

According to the criteria of

The theme refers to the Spanish musical nationalism that framed the sound of the Iberian Peninsula between the 19th and early 20th centuries, with composers such as Isaac Albéniz, Enrique Granados, Manuel de Falla, Joaquín Rodrigo and Joaquín Turina, in works such as ‘Noches en the gardens of Spain’, ‘The three-cornered hat’ or ‘Witchy love’.

However, the festival will also explore works by Scarlatti, Ravel, Rimnki-Korsakov, Boccherini and Liszt in which the influence of Spanish music was perceived.

To achieve all this theme in the recitals in Cartagena, the festival has brought together a selection of artists who are experts in this repertoire: The Castila y León Symphony Orchestra, the conductors Thierry Fischer, Paola Ávila and Aurelio Zarelli, the flamenco singer Marina Heredia, the pianists Javier Perianes, Giovanni Bietti, Mauricio Arias-Esguerra, Stefano Malferrari and Alejandro Roca; the violinist Ana María Valderrama, the violist Antonello Farulli, the guitarist Rafael Aguirre, the guitar duo Dúo del Mar, the Trío Arbós, the string quartets Nous and Arcieri, the mezzo-sopranos Sandra Ferrández and Paola Leguizamón, the baritone Mauricio Leoni, the string trio Trip Trip Trip, cornist Guido Corti, cellist Santiago Cañón-Valencia, the Cartagena Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia.

The inaugural concert, for example, will be at the Adolfo Mejía Theater, on January 4, with the presentation of the Castilla y León Symphony, under the direction of Fischer, in repertoire by Albéniz, De Falla, Turina, Granados, as well as Georges Bizet, and then move on to the recital by Javier Perianes.

The general director of the festival is Antonio Miscená, who has already made a long history with this meeting in Cartagena that the Salvi Foundation created 18 years ago.
