AC replacement technology developed to reduce electricity bills by 50%

Scientists in China have developed an alternative to air conditioner (AC) technology that will reduce electricity bills by 50 percent by providing cooling to people instead of rooms.

Experiments conducted on artificial skin by scientists in China and Hong Kong found that it reduced skin temperature by 7.3 degrees Celsius while using 50% less energy than conventional AC.

ACs cool the air of a room or building but this new device works completely different.

This device provides cooling directly to people by using mid-infrared radiation. The results of a study in this regard were published in the journal Cell Reports Physical Science.

Experiments have shown that this device consumes 50 percent less energy than conventional air conditioning systems, which reduces electricity bills, the study said.

Due to climate change, the global temperature is continuously increasing, due to which several countries are experiencing prolonged heat waves, increased energy demand and significant increase in AC bills.

According to scientists, this new technology will not only save energy, but it will also provide protection from airborne diseases.

He said that mid-infrared radiation hits the human body directly to create a cooling sensation and does not depend on air circulation.

They have also developed a prototype device using thermoelectric and polyethylene films.

Researchers have used polyethylene films as a barrier to prevent moisture from collecting on the cold surface so that the device’s performance is maintained even in humid climates.

The researchers expect the device to work effectively for much longer.
