Sixteen songs are present in the soundtrack of “Joker: Folie à Deux”, in all cinemas from 2 October 2024. Fourteen covers and two unreleased songs.
The movie “Joker: Folie à Deux” is a sequel to Joker and absolutely lives up to the original. Scripted, produced and directed by Todd Phillips has as its main protagonists Joaquin Phoenix in his double Oscar® role, of Arthur Fleck/Jokeralongside the Oscar® winner Lady Gaga (“A Star Is Born”). Music is the great protagonist of this sequel, with many duets by the two protagonists and consequently the soundtrack can only be of the highest level: it includes the songs present in the film performed by Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga and Nick Cave and contains covers of American classics such as “For Once In My Life”, “If My Friends Could See Me Now”, “That’s Entertainment”, “That’s Life”, “When You’re Smiling (The Whole World Smiles With You)”, “(They Long to Be) Close to You”, as well as the original song “Folie à Deux”, written, produced and sung by Lady Gaga. The soundtrack is available on all digital platforms and in physical format and exclusively on the store Universal Music Italia in colored LP and CD format. It’s difficult to choose one for this column of ours: in the end we opted for “(They Long to Be) Close to You”a song with many lives, just like the Joker.
The desire to be close
“(They Long to Be) Close to You” è un brano scritto da Burt Bacharach and Hal David, released in 1963 sung by Richard Chamberlain and in 1964 by Dionne Warwich, but only in 1970 did it become an international hit thanks to the cover of The Carperntersthe brothers Richard and Karen Carpenter, which earned them a Grammy. A timeless and ageless song, thanks to Bacharach’s always sublime arrangements and which over the years has been interpreted by many other artists such as Paul Weller, Mario Biondi, Dusty Springfield, even Frank Sinatra; above all it is a song that in the TV series I Simpsonwhere it is often used during emotional moments between Homer and Marge Simpson throughout the series. Now it enjoys new life thanks to the duet of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in Joker 2.
