FC Bayern apparently has their eye on Jonas Urbig. The 21-year-old has the same skills as Manuel Neuer. So will he be his successor?
Munich – What’s going on between FC Bayern and Jonas Urbig from 1. FC Cologne? The goalkeeping situation in Germany has changed fundamentally following the resignation of Manuel Neuer and the injury of Marc-André ter Stegen. The question remains as to who will represent ter Stegen for at least eight months. In this context, the young goalkeeper Jonas Urbig is increasingly coming into focus. The 21-year-old top talent from 1. FC Köln has not only aroused the interest of national coach Julian Nagelsmann. FC Bayern is also said to be interested.
Jonas Urbig, regular goalkeeper at 1. FC Köln: FC Bayern is said to be interested
After a successful loan spell at Greuther Fürth, Jonas Urbig has established himself as a regular goalkeeper at 1. FC Köln in the 2nd Bundesliga. The youngster was declared number one before the first training session and relegated the previous goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe to the bench. Urbig’s skills, such as his strength on the line, his control of the penalty area and his ball skills, are very reminiscent of the young Manuel Neuer. Above all, his precise, long passes behind the opposing defense make him a fully-fledged goalkeeper – at just 21 years old.
FC Bayern has apparently already held talks with Jonas Urbig in order to win him over as a possible successor to Manuel Neuer. At least that’s what they report Bild. Although Neuer is currently Bayern’s number one goalkeeper, the club needs to find a long-term solution without the 38-year-old. Urbig, who shows great potential at a young age, could fill this gap. However, he would first have to line up behind experienced goalkeepers such as Sven Ulreich, Daniel Peretz and Alexander Nübel.

Will Jonas Urbig move to the Bundesliga next summer?
A move to a big club like FC Bayern brings both challenges and opportunities for a young goalkeeper like Jonas Urbig. While the competition in the squad is strong, Urbig could benefit from experience and training at the highest level.
Jonas Urbig has to decide whether he should extend his contract with 1. FC Köln or aim for the jump to the first division in order to realize his career plan. His contract runs until 2026 and an important decision could be made next summer. One thing is clear: in order to develop further, Urbig must regularly play at the highest level. The coming months will be crucial for the further development of his career. (msb)
