Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – October 4, 2024 – This October 5 and 6 in Puerto San Souci, for the first time in the Dominican Republic comes Comic Con, an event dedicated to fans of comic culture and the geek world. A weekend that will mark a milestone of great importance for the country.
The event will feature various activities, international guests and entertainment for the whole family. One of the main attractions will be the Official Cosplay Contest: Cosplay Master Cup, where cosplayers will compete for the grand prize: a trip to Comic Con Colombia, 15,000 Dominican pesos in cash, and additional prizes provided by sponsors. In addition, awards will be given to second and third place.
More than 10 international guests will be present, including professional cosplayers, designers, and Hollywood actors, including from the series The Walking Dead and the movie SHAZAM!
This information was issued in a press conference that had the support of the Mayor’s Office of Santo Domingo Este, where Dío Astacio, mayor of this town, was also present.
Gilberto Chaves, general producer of Comic Con Dominican Republic, commented: “For all the fans who will attend the event it will be an experience that they will never forget, it is a great step for art, and culture that will bring together the best of geek culture, a event for the whole family that cannot be missed.”
Furthermore, Oscar Romero, producer of the event, said: “We are incredibly happy. Comic Con is a great party and in this edition, for the Dominican Republic, without a doubt you will be surprised with everything we have, we bring a new experience that promises to create very valuable memories,” he also expressed that it is a dream for many people, He also noted that these types of initiatives create the opportunity to create culture.
Likewise, Edson Arauz referred to the event as an honor that both national and international brands are providing their support to what will be an experience focused on geek culture.
On the other hand, Dío Astacio, mayor of Santo Domingo Este, expressed his enthusiasm for this great event “This is the first event of global significance that the mayor’s office supports, I am more than grateful to have these personalities here (he said, referring to the guests). international)”.
Astacio also reported that the mayor’s office will provide three buses for free transportation, as an ease for people who attend the event, especially for those who go with their vehicles and must leave them parked at a long distance from Puerto San Souci. In addition, he said that they coordinated for more than 200 municipal police officers to be in the area, this for the safety of the attendees, in the same way, he assured that they are prepared for any eventuality and have already contacted the fire station, as well as with 911.
International guests were also present: Cooper Andrews and Seth Williams from the series The Walking Dead; Grace Caroline Currey, actress of the film SHAZAM; Adrián Barba, Dragon Ball performer; Kipatsu, international cosplayer; among other personalities.

The actors of the renowned series “The Walking Dead”, Cooper Andrews and Seth Williams, spoke with the press and fans in attendance about their experience as actors, they also recognized the growth that geek culture has had in Latin America.
Kinpatsu, a professional cosplayer, encouraged attendees to enjoy their passion and have fun at the event. He also talked about his beginnings in the world of cosplay, encouraging everyone who wants to dedicate themselves to this: “Just do it, it doesn’t matter if it’s something very elaborate or simple, the important thing is that you like it and enjoy your passion.”
In the same way, Patty Azan, voice actress, and Adrián Barba, Dragon Ball performer, spoke about the beginnings of their career, also expressing that they felt very encouraged to be able to share with the fans and attendees of this first Comic Con in the DR.
