Previously available remedies for hair loss can stabilize it and improve hair density somewhat. However, there is still no definitive solution – despite years of research. Nevertheless, scientists continue to search for promising means. The following four methods could therefore give those affected new hope:

  • Medicines for hay fever: Research has shown that hay fever medication could also help with hair loss. Several studies show that a solution containing one percent of the antihistamine ceterizine could combat genetic hair loss.
  • Vitamin-D: The “sun vitamin” is produced by the body through exposure to UV rays from the sun. Because a lack of vitamin D disrupts the growth cycle and weakens the dermis – the layer of skin where hair follicles are located – it has been shown to increase the risk of hair loss. Researchers have now succeeded in a study that bald mice that were given vitamin D grew new hair.

  • Arthritis remedies: A certain medicine was originally developed for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. In autoimmune disease, the immune system mistakenly attacks the joints. Inflammatory hair loss, alopecia areata, also occurs in a similar way. In this case, the immune system attacks the hair follicles. Studies of arthritis patients showed that patients with bald patches grew new hair. However, you should only take these medications after consulting your doctor, as they can have unpleasant side effects, including life-threatening blood clots.
  • Certain type of sugar: 2-Deoxy-D-ribose is a type of sugar that occurs naturally in the body. When used in a gel for the scalp, it can stimulate hair growth. The sugar stimulates the growth of new blood vessels to transport oxygen-rich blood to tissues and organs.
