Willem II to the left row after winning against Almere City

Willem II is in the sub-top of the Eredivisie after Friday evening’s victory over Almere City. Substitute Amar Fatah brilliantly scored the only goal in the 78th minute.

Almere City FC looked stronger in the first half. The home club regularly came menacingly close to the Tilburg goal, but Willem II keeper Thomas Didillon prevented an Almere goal.

In the 41st minute, Willem II seemed to get a penalty after a tackle by Ricardo Visus on Rob Nizet. But after watching the video footage, referee Jannick van der Laan withdrew his decision. So it was 0-0 at half time.

Opportunities for Almere
Immediately after the break, Almere City started again. Anas Tahiri shot from distance onto the top of the crossbar. Thom Haye also had a good chance and Thomas Didillon saved Logan Delaurier Chaubet’s effort.

As so often happens in football, the goal came at the other end. Substitute Fatah hit the underside of the crossbar for Willem II. That goal was good for the three points.

With eleven points from eight games, coach Peter Maes’ team occupies fifth place in the rankings. Almere City is penultimate, with two points.
