Director Tino Anand had to shoot the climax of the film ‘Main Azad Hoon’ and this was becoming the biggest challenge for him.
According to the screenplay, in the final scenes, the hero Amitabh Bachchan was supposed to give an emotional, passionate and passionate speech to which the stadium crowd gathers.
After the speech, Amitabh Bachchan sang the only song included in the film, ‘Katne Bazo Kanye Sir’, which had the crowd singing along. Now the problem was where to get such a large number of ‘extras’. In 1989, like today, technology was not advanced enough to capture these scenes with the help of computer graphics or special effects.
Tinu Anand’s ‘Main Azad Hoon’ was inspired by the Hollywood production ‘Meat John Doe’. The story and dialogues of which were written by Javed Akhtar. The story revolved around a female journalist (Shabana Azmi), the newspaper is bought by a businessman who weighs every news in the scales of profit and profit.
Fed up with this behavior, the female journalist writes and publishes the story of a fictitious person ‘Azad’ before resigning. A head man independent declares that he will commit suicide on January 26, fed up with corruption and nepotism, and then begins the dramatic conflict and interesting twists. This sequence continues till the end of the film.
Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Main Azad Hoon’ had only one song. This song was written by Kafi Azmi, father-in-law of Javed Akhtar and father of Shabana Azmi. Amrapatal was the composer of ‘Katne Bazo Kyan Sir’.
The lyrics of this song were copied from the African song ‘Lideja’. which Amitabh Bachchan heard during the shooting of the film in Europe and on his request the music duo Amar Aptal used the tune in ‘Main Azad Hoon’ which was also sung by the emperor of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan himself.
Tino Anand was worried about how to mirror the climax. Where will such a large number of people come from? The film unit froze. Amitabh Bachchan also joined the reconciliation consultation after which it was concluded that advertisements should be placed in newspapers.
All these advertisements will say is that Amitabh Bachchan should reach the stadium on such and such date to watch the show. It was estimated that if even two to three thousand people came, the scenes would be closed with great fun.

The same was done with the scheduled program. When director Tinu Anand arrived at the stadium with the production team on the required date, he was blown away by the atmosphere, a roaring sea of people that was already there before his arrival. According to an estimate, fifty thousand spectators had arrived after seeing the advertisement in the newspaper.
This matter was brought to Amitabh Bachchan’s knowledge, so he said that there is nothing to worry about. Now Amitabh Bachchan announced through the loudspeaker that all the scenes will be mirrored. Just be disciplined. Follow what the production team says.
The situation was that there were as many spectators outside the stadium as there were inside the stadium. On the big screen where Amitabh Bachchan’s passionate and revolutionary speech was first aired. Then after that he hums his famous song. It was now known that everyone inside and outside the stadium was singing this song. The production team took a deep breath and thus the difficult climax of ‘Main Azad Hoon’ was mirrored.
When Tinu Anand’s Main Azad Hoon was released in theaters on 15 December 1989, the film did not do well commercially. However, the next year was full of happiness for Javed Akhtar as he won the Filmfare Award for Best Dialogue Writer for writing the catchy dialogues of the same film.
According to the film’s director Tino Anand, sometimes some part of the film gets stuck like an elephant’s tail. For him too, there was a similar situation in the climax of ‘Main Azad Hoon’.
