At the teacher of the year gala in the Jõhvi concert hall, where Estonia’s best educational workers are thanked and recognized on Teachers’ Day, Riima Velbre, director of kindergarten Tareke, was announced as the leader of the educational institution of the year.
At the Teacher of the Year gala, educators are highlighted for their work in 2023 and the previous two years. This autumn, the Haapsalu city government put Tarekes, Pääsupesa and Vikerkaare kindergartens under joint management, and Riima Velbre now works as a teacher at Oru school.
Velbre was introduced at the year’s teaching time gala and it was said that he is an inspiring, courageous and quick decision-making kindergarten leader who has greatly contributed to the transition to the Estonian language of instruction. He has exceptional organizational skills in accepting Syrian war refugees as well as Ukrainian families and children under his care.
As a manager, he is a special connoisseur of foreign cultures, he knows how to approach and communicate, creates a solid and caring environment, while being open to new ideas. He likes to enrich the learning of the Estonian language with the help of new IT and playful possibilities.
Riima values continuous learning, she develops herself and creates opportunities for the development of her team. As a result, during the last few years, the teachers of the kindergarten managed by him have successively received the title of teacher of the year in Läänemaa and Haapsalu.
He knows what direction to move in, takes care of his staff and keeps the kindergarten’s reputation high. It is important for Riima that the collective is developing, united and progressive.
Riima is a recognized director in Läänemaa, cooperation partner of Haapsalu Vocational Education Center and internship supervisor. He is a member of the Estonian Association of Adult Educators and the Association of Early Childhood Education Leaders of Lääne County. Participated in the development of the city as a member of the Haapsalu City Council.
