The Spanish newspaper “Laopinion” reported that “FIFA” and the European Football Association held a meeting last Wednesday with the Royal Spanish Federation and the Supreme Sports Council to inform them of their concern about the current situation of the Spanish Federation, without a president, after the suspension of Pedro Rocha.
International football’s governing bodies asked the Spanish Federation to call for immediate elections within a period not exceeding 15 or 20 days.
The newspaper pointed out that Emilio Garcia Silver, the legal director of FIFA, issued a final ultimatum to Vicente del Bosque, head of the Supervisory Committee of the Spanish Football Federation, and Alvaro de Miguel, Secretary General of the Federation, regarding this matter, telling them: “Either… There will be a president for the federation within three months, or the highest football organizations will intervene. There can be no World Cup if there is no president.”
The same source explained that the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) will not tolerate the Spanish Federation’s lack of commitment regarding the necessity of holding a general assembly to elect a new president, as it is possible that a serious decision will be taken by FIFA to exclude Spain from organizing the 2030 World Cup.
It is noteworthy that the Spanish Football Federation has become without leadership, after the Spanish Sports Court decided, last July, to suspend Pedro Rocha, president of the Spanish Football Federation, for two years, in addition to imposing a fine on him amounting to 33 thousand euros, for exceeding his duties.
Rocha was appointed president of the Spanish Federation, a day after the Spanish government decided to place the federation, which has been in crisis since the scandal of its former president Luis Rubiales’ forced kiss with soccer player Jenny Hermoso, under guardianship.
