Four dead, including a Hamas leader, in an Israeli attack in northern Lebanon

Four dead, including a leader of the armed wing of Hamas, were left early this Saturday by an Israeli attack near a Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanon.

The Times of Israel, citing media linked to Hamas, identified Saeed Atallah, leader of Hamas’s armed wing, the al-Qassam brigades, as the person who died along with three members of his family in an attack on a building near from the Al Beddawi refugee camp.

The attack occurred shortly after the Israeli Army issued an alert for residents in another sector of Lebanon, the southern suburbs of Beirut, known as Dahye, to evacuate in anticipation of new attacks against targets of the Shiite group Hezbollah.

According to the Lebanese National News Agency (ANN), Israeli warplanes “launched 12 attacks” against Dahye, specifically in an area near the Al Qaim mosque, the Burj al Barajneh neighborhood, a complex in Haret Hreik, Al Ruwais and the neighborhoods of Al Abyad and Choueifat.

For its part, the Lebanese television channel Al Manar reported in the early hours of this Saturday armed attacks by Israel in the towns of Bardala, northwest of Ramallah, and Burga, near Nablus.

Hezbollah reported that since Friday night it began to engage in armed clashes with Israeli troops in the border area with Lebanon, mainly in the village of Odaisseh, according to The Times of Israel, although the outcome of these is currently unknown.

Hezbollah also stated that it attacked an Israeli Merkava tank while it was advancing towards a border town in Lebanese territory, on a day marked by the intensification of clashes between the formation and Israeli troops in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah said in a statement that around 7:00 a.m. local time (4:00 GMT) its fighters “attacked a Merkava tank while it was advancing near Albat, on the outskirts of Maron, with a guided missile” which, it stated, directly hit causing “deaths.” and wounded” among the occupants.

The formation assured that, at dawn, it responded to an “attempted advance” by Israeli troops in Oddaisseh, on the southern border of Lebanon, while it also thwarted another advance in the same town with an attack that caused “a massive explosion.” in the place where the soldiers of Israel were.

The town of Oddaisseh, next to the divide, was the first in which clashes were recorded between Hezbollah and Israeli troops, who began their invasion of southern Lebanon early Tuesday, although since then their progress on the ground has been delayed. largely stagnant.
