Who will retroactively get up to 8,592 euros in a few days

The retroactives come from the recalculation made in their pensions in November 2023 with the improved replacement rates of the Vroutsis law (law 4670/2020) that apply after 30 years of insurance.

With the recalculation, the pensioners got raises without being paid the amounts due from October 2019 as provided by law.

The amounts they will receive now are the retroactive increases of 48 months, ie from October 2019 to October 2023, given that from November 2023 onwards they receive the increased pension.

According to the payment data processed by the EFKA services, the beneficiaries of retroactive payments are pensioners after 2016 who receive (most) two pensions, such as for example an old-age pension and a death pension, or two pensions from parallel insurance.

Beneficiaries also include retirees with consecutive insurance (eg, IKA and State), retirees who continued or took up work after retirement, as well as other cases.

EFKA is settling this pending issue now and in the next few days the 45,000 pensioners will be paid their retroactive dues.

The recalculation with the replacement rates of Law 4670/2020 is more favorable for those with 30 years of insurance or more.

For example, with 35 years of insurance, the Katrougalou law provided for a replacement rate of 33.81%, while with the Vroutsis law, it improved to 37.31%, with 40 years of insurance, the replacement rate increased to 50.01% from 42.80%, etc.

A pensioner with 40 years of insurance and a salary (before he retired) of 1,500 euros, with the Katrougalou law he received a compensatory pension of 642 euros, while with the Vroutsis law, his pension increased to 750 euros, that is, he got an increase of almost 110 euros per month. Together with the national pension, he received 1,026 euros, and with the recalculation it reached 1,134 euros. Retrospectives for 48 months amount to 5,280 euros.

However, a new batch of retroactives is being prepared for the coming months in the pensions of veterans from the Armed Forces. They will receive retroactively 27 months in their pensions, which result from the recalculation of the deductions of Law 4093. It is estimated that they will occur retroactively for 25,000 beneficiaries.

The backlog of recalculations, however, does not end with the payment of the 45,000 pensioners and the apostates, as in the queue there are even other categories of pensioners in which either the recalculation was done but it turned out to be wrong and must be corrected, or it was not done at all due to incomplete data.

In the erroneous recalculations, it was found that either lower pensionable earnings or less insurance period were taken into account only based on the years of insurance and not the months referred to in the original decisions. In fact, in some funds (ETAA), they even look for contributions that pensioners had paid for their insurance, but had not been registered in their entirety in their insurance history. Their pensions were calculated based on the data available to the funds, but when it came time to recalculate and check the insurance data, mistakes were revealed.

Out of recalculation are also thousands of supplementary pensions, for which the insured paid increased contributions. In cases of increased contributions, pensioners are entitled to an increase, which in many supplementary pensions issued from 2015 onwards has not been calculated. Document held by “E.T.” proves that even the supplementary pensions from the workers’ supplementary fund in the insurance funds, TEAPOKA, come out without the increase. The relevant document states that while the contributions are 10%, the supplementary ones are calculated with a contribution of 6%, without paying a corresponding increase of 4 additional units.
