The Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias had a meeting today with the Minister of Education Kyriakos Pierrakakis, regarding the changes in the military schools, but this was postponed due to the developments in the Middle East and there will be a new update regarding the time of the meeting.
According to information from alfavita.gr, the first measure that is expected to be taken when the meeting of the two ministers finally takes place is that from now on the right to declare military schools will be given to candidates from all scientific fields.
This change is expected to apply for the 2026 National Examinations, although there is a lot of pressure from candidates and their parents for it to apply from the 2025 National Examinations.
Also, it has been proposed to allow the admission of EPA.L. graduates. in all the officer schools of the armed forces and security forces and to offer graduates of other types of high school any remaining vacancies, so that there are no vacancies in higher education and military schools, by OLTEE, but it is not yet known whether the proposal will be adopted.
Secondly, it has been decided to adjust the salaries of students in military schools to the standards of police schools.
That is, student salaries will move to 2/3 of a new officer’s first salary from 1/4 where they are today.
Today a hopeful receives a symbolic compensation of 150 euros per month. The amount will increase to 600 euros, i.e. about 2/3 of the salary of a second lieutenant who graduates from the Evelpidon School (about 880-900 euros).
Thirdly, in the context of the strengthening of domestic scientific research for the defense industry, the improvement of study programs and the possibility provided to the Higher Military Educational Institutions (ASEI) to also grant doctoral degrees will be sought.
