Parents have the first role and the state is their helper

The issue of juvenile delinquency, which has been of great concern in recent days, was addressed by the ND press representative, Nikos Romanos, who focused on the need for prevention and emphasized that the government has tightened the legal framework while praising the measure to ban mobile phones phones in schools because “nothing is enough by itself” as he said.

Speaking to Sky, Mr. Romanos emphasized that the government since February 2021 has set up a scientific committee, which essentially has an advisory role in order to now, for the first time in this country, have a strategy on the issue of violence of minors.

“Laboratories in schools have entered this government because prevention is very important, not just the part of repression. The Penal Code has already been tightened with a series of provisions and yesterday a tightening of the framework was announced both with regard to children and with regard to parents and the neglect of supervision of a minor. It is also very important that psychologists and social workers in schools have more than tripled, while juvenile arrests have also increased by 50%,” he said.

At the same time, he emphasized that there is the stop bullying that concerns intra-school phenomena, an application through which many complaints have been made and is one of the reasons that this phenomenon has started and is shown.

“It is positive that they are opening their mouths and the children are no longer afraid to speak. There is also the Safe Youth platform that was announced yesterday for the extracurricular phenomena”, pointed out the ND press representative and concluded:

“Nothing is enough by itself. In all incidents there is always a cell phone, which records or leaks what it recorded, or sends messages to a group of children, this makes the “cell phones in the bag” initiative very important, that is, outside the classroom, and this is observed because it was associated with penalties. The video recording of such incidents leads to a change in the school environment. The attribution, now, of the damage caused by children in schools to parents is also important. The most important thing that the prime minister has ordered in all the international fora is that these big multinational companies of these applications should be pressured to put much more filters on these applications and for the use at very young ages and for the time of use etc. The part of prevention in matters of violence against minors is particularly decisive, I also remind you of the campaign we ran that raised awareness among parents and children. Parents, whatever the state does, have the first role. The state must help, be a helper in the role of the parent and everything that is done is in this direction”.
