Governor Abbott Releases Statement Regarding Memphis Police Chief Shooting

AUSTIN, Texas (KEYU) – Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement regarding the shooting of the Memphis police chief Thursday night.

The Texas Department of Public Safety on Friday added Seth Altman, 33, to its list of 10 most wanted fugitives.

Altman is accused of shooting Memphis Police Chief Rex Plant Thursday night.

Authorities say Chief Plant and another officer were serving an arrest warrant for residential burglary when the suspect shot Chief Plant multiple times. Altman then fled the area.

Chief Plant was flown to a Lubbock hospital, where authorities say he is in stable condition.

“Texas is first and foremost a state of law and order,” said Governor Abbott. “Law enforcement officers selflessly risk their lives every day they put on their badge and deserve to know they have the full support of the state of Texas.”
