On behalf of Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), former President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alavi The move to seal K’s dental clinic was challenged by his wife and son in the Sindh High Court on Friday.
The administration of Sindh Building Control Authority on Thursday sealed the dental clinic of Dr. Arif Alvi located in Block B of Sindhi Muslim Cooperative Housing Society in Karachi area.
The authority said in its statement that the clinic was sealed when it was set up in a residential house, which is a “routine operation” and similar operations are being carried out across the city.
Former president’s wife Samina Alvi and son Awab Alvi have filed a petition in the Sindh High Court against the sealing of Alvi Dental Clinic.
The petition filed through Barrister Ali Tahir said that ‘Sindh Building Control Authority’s sealing of the clinic is just a political vendetta and such an act is harassment of Dr. Arif Alvi on political grounds.’
“The dental clinic has been established for a long time and no notice was given before sealing,” it added.

On the other hand Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh President Haleem Adil Shaikh condemned the sealing of Dr. Arif Alvi’s dental clinic and said that this action is part of the ongoing state vendetta against PTI.
In his statement, Haleem Adil Shaikh said that the government is taking unjustified actions against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.
According to Haleem Adil Shaikh: ‘Dr. Arif Alvi’s clinic was sealed saying that it was established illegally. The clinic has been operating for many years and the government has now found out that the clinic is illegal. This is being done only to target political revenge.’
When Independent Urdu contacted the Sindh Building Control Authority to find out its position, the director general of the authority, Rashid Solangi, refused to comment.

On the other hand, to know the position of the Sindh government, Abdul Rasheed Chana, the spokesperson of the Chief Minister of Sindh, was contacted and he said that the Sindh government has never subjected the opponents to political revenge. The clinic is set up in a bungalow, which was sealed after a complaint from the neighborhood.
He further said that ‘Sindh Building Control Authority has taken action as per law.’
According to the website of Alvi Dental Clinic, Dr. Arif Alvi moved his clinic located in Gulzar Building in Saddar area of Karachi to 23B Street of Block B of Sindhi Muslim Cooperative Housing Society in 1991.
According to the website, Dr. Arif Alvi used to treat patients in this clinic before he became the president of Pakistan and after he became the president, other specialist doctors were running this clinic.
