After the Iranian attack on Israel, fears in Egypt that Israeli gas supplies will be affected

He explained that Cairo relies on other sources to meet its local needs if supplies coming from Tel Aviv are affected.

He said in statements to Al-Mal newspaper that the supplies supplied from Tel Aviv to Egypt are continuing until now, but they may be temporarily affected if these events continue in a way that leads to the closure of Israeli gas fields and the cessation of work in them in the coming period.

This came against the backdrop of Iran targeting Israeli gas production facilities located near the city of Ashkelon, according to the Iranian Tasnim Agency, as part of missile strikes in response to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of Hamas, and Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah.

The official explained that the Israeli side has the right to stop work on any facilities or gas fields exposed to missile attack, which will increase its dependence on its other fields far from tensions to meet its needs, which may push it to reduce its gas supplies to Egypt, until the situation calms down and stabilizes.

The government was aiming to increase its imports of Israeli gas starting this October to around one billion cubic feet per day, compared to 900-800 million recently.

The official confirmed that Egypt imports liquefied gas from more than one source, which reduces the impact of any events on its imports if they occur, explaining that resorting to increasing the number of imported shipments through global suppliers represents an alternative to provide any additional needs for the local market, and cover any deficit or decline that may occur.

He revealed that it is expected to receive about 7 shipments of liquefied natural gas from tomorrow until October 17, 6 of which will arrive at the port of Ain Sokhna and one will be received by the gasification unit in Aqaba, Jordan, to be processed and supplied to the Egyptian market.
