M. Navickienė spoke at the Council of the European Union about the benefits and necessity of new technologies

The impact of new technologies on employment During the morning session, a political discussion was held “The impact of new technologies on the workforce. Towards the right digital transformation”. European Union ministers discussed what new initiatives could be launched at the EU level to monitor and address the impact of new technologies on employment, working conditions and social rights.

“New technologies are both dangers and opportunities that we miss by not using them.” The European Union is already losing the competitive battle with the United States in the information technology sector. And in an industry that has always been strong, we are falling behind China more and more. Strengthening European leadership in digital transformation is therefore both an opportunity and a necessity. In my opinion, the strength of Europe is its people, high qualification of employees, high productivity, high-quality education and social security systems, our social partnership and solidarity”, said Minister of Social Security and Labor Monika Navickienė at the meeting.

According to Minister M.Navickienė, a very significant aspect is the use of real-time data in the administration: “In the ever-accelerating world of new technologies, real-time data allows us to better adapt our employment and social policies, thus to be more efficient with limited resources. As an important achievement, I would like to mention the emergence of the State Data Agency in Lithuania, which collects data from various institutions into the state data fund.

In order to increase the digital skills of the workforce, Lithuania has prepared an economic transformation and competitiveness development program aimed at reorienting industry towards a climate-neutral economy, promoting advanced technologies and innovations, as well as entrepreneurship and corporate growth.”

Minister M.Navickienė was happy that in Lithuania, using the funds allocated for RRF, we are retraining employees to create high added value, and even 50% of employees retraining into IT professions. women.

Therefore, social security measures should be more targeted.”
