A 47-year-old Syrian deceived two offices in Innsbruck and Kufstein for two years and thereby evaded the payment of social benefits in the upper five-digit euro range. Although the man had significant assets in Syria such as houses, business premises and land, he presented himself to the authorities as “penniless”, the police said on Friday.
It was said that the 47-year-old was explicitly asked about his asset ownership when applying for social benefits. Investigations were started after an anonymous tip was received by the police.
