Johnny Depp Visits Children in Hospital As Jack Sparrow

JOHNNY Depp made a special surprise visit while attending the San Sebastian Film Festival. Wearing the costume of the character he played in the film Pirates of the Caribbean, Captain Jack Sparrow, Depp visited the children of Donostia University Hospital in San Sebastian, Spain, at the end of September.

The 61-year-old actor is in Spain to attend the San Sebastian Film Festival. At the hospital, Depp talked and played with patients admitted to the pediatrics and oncology wards.

While he was there, he laughed with the kids and never went out of character. The hospital uploaded photos of the actor’s visit on X’s social media.

“From the entire Donostia University Hospital staff, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to Johnny Depp for his time, support and energy, as well as to @sansebastianfes who facilitated this visit,” the hospital wrote in a post on Twitter, as reported by People, Wednesday (2/10).

Depp has previously visited children’s hospital wards as Jack Sparrow all over the world, from Vancouver, Paris, London and Brisbane, Australia, to several cities in the United States (US).

Depp starred in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise alongside Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley in The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Dead Man’s Chest (2006) and At World’s End (2007). He also starred in two subsequent films, On Stranger Tides (2011) and Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017).

The franchise begins with a love story between Will Turner (Bloom) and Elizabeth Swan (Knightley). They are caught up in a larger conflict between Jack Sparrow, various pirate groups, and factions associated with the British Empire.

Depp’s visit comes after the debut of Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness, a new film he directed, at the 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival in Spain.

In a press conference on September 24, Depp explained how he personally relates to the film’s subject, Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.

“Everyone has their story. Sure, you could say I’ve been through a few things here and there. But you know, I’m fine,” he said with a laugh in a video of the conference shared on Instagram by Hollywood Reporter.

Following the San Sebastian Film Festival, Depp will open an immersive and experiential exhibition entitled A Bunch of Stuff in New York City on Friday, October 4. (Z-1)
