Borrell: There are countries in the European Union that are ready to support any actions of Israel

This came in an interview by Borrell with TVE, where he continued: “It is easy to understand that there are countries, for clear historical reasons, that are prepared to supply Israel not only with weapons, but also with tolerance and full support for its right to act defensively or offensively. On the other hand, there are countries such as Spain that are making greater efforts to respect international law, expressing greater humanitarian concern for the consequences of the war, providing greater support to the Palestinians, and a greater commitment to establishing a Palestinian state.

Borrell also pointed out that the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not listen to any voices, and as a result, “the requests of the international community not to allow the invasion of Lebanon or the invasion of Gaza went unheeded.”

The Office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations had called in a statement for an immediate ceasefire, and stressed the need to avoid all-out war at all costs and respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, against the backdrop of the Israeli army’s imposition of a closed military zone in the area of Metulla, Misgav Am, and Kafr Giladi, based on an assessment of the situation. Noting that “entry to these areas is prohibited by orders from the Israeli army.”

The army statement stated that this announcement goes into effect on September 30, 2024 and ends on October 6, 2024.

At dawn last Tuesday, the army announced the start of a targeted and specific ground operation against Hezbollah targets in the area near the border in southern Lebanon.
