Ciudad Mujer Center expands service for mammography studies on Saturdays

Asunción, IP Agency.- During this month, in the context of Pink October, at the Ciudad Mujer Center – Ñande Kerayvoty Renda expands the service for mammography studies on Saturdays. Following the model implemented since last year, on Saturdays October 5, 12, 19 and 26, the service will be available from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

In addition, the exemption of the medical order for mammography study was provided, in order to reduce obstacles and time for women, always under the prior scheduling format.

This year, the motto of the Pink October campaign is “Let’s make prevention a tradition”, within the framework of the International Day to Fight Breast Cancer, led by the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, with the support of the Office of the First Lady, the Ministry of Women and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC).

This month, shifts are enabled extending the hours of attention for mammography studies and cervical studies (PAP, colposcopy and HPV) on Saturdays, October 5, 12, 19 and 26 in the Sexual and Reproductive Health Module, dependent on the Hospital General of Villa Elisa.

The professionals’ office hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Shifts can be registered in person starting today 01/10/2024 or at the cell phone number for more information from the Health Module (0992)728-393, only calls between the hours of 07:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. (Monday to Friday).

The mammography study will be enabled for women who require it for their annual check-up, from 40 years of age and 35 years of age with a history of family cancer, and it will not be mandatory to present a study order, with the exception of women under 40 years of age. years.

The Sexual and Reproductive Health Module under the leadership of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare has managed to become a public health reference center, which contributes to the Early Detection and Diagnosis of Breast Cancer Program.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women in Paraguay and the main cause of death in the female population. During 2023, the National Cancer Institute (INCAN) diagnosed more than 600 new cases and recorded 274 deaths nationwide. These alarming figures show the need to take urgent measures in the early detection and prevention of this disease.

Globally, the picture is similar. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 462,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, and nearly 100,000 die in the Americas alone.

This international context highlights the importance of local efforts in Paraguay, where the public health system has strengthened its capacity to combat this type of cancer, through campaigns such as “Pink October” and with public health measures aimed at facilitating access to screening exams.

From the Ministry of Women, through the Ciudad Mujer Center, several activities will be carried out to raise awareness among the entire population about care and support in early detection, treatment and palliative care for prevention.
