Residents of Nueva Esperanza participated in environmental education sessions

Asunción, IP Agency.- Itaipu carried out two days of environmental awareness in communities near the Pozuelo Natural Reserve and a total of 250 people attended, including teachers, students and parents.

The activities took place at Basic School No. 1579 in the municipality of Puerto Adela and at Basic School No. 4285 Don Carlos A. López in Colonia Itambey, Nueva Esperanza district, the Binacional reported.

Both events included interactive exhibitions on air care, water preservation, rational use of energy and solid waste management for recycling.

In addition, educational videos on climate change were shown, with a focus on solutions through individual and collective good practices. The students actively participated in dynamics on the correct separation of waste, acquiring practical knowledge to apply in their environment.

In addition, the Binational donated key inputs to reinforce these environmental practices. It delivered selective garbage cans for the separation of waste, as well as forestry and ornamental seedlings, in order to contribute to the improvement of the school environment. The day in the municipality of Puerto Adela was accompanied by the communal chief, Agapito Melgarejo and his delegation.

Ignacio Riquelme, from the Environmental Education Division of Itaipu, highlighted the importance of these border and transition areas, which are part of the Itaipu Biosphere Reserve (RBI). He stressed that in this region there are communities that need comprehensive support to achieve their empowerment and sustainable development.

“These actions are part of our commitment to strengthen local capacities, contributing to the preservation of the environment and the well-being of the communities,” mentioned the professional. In this context, the Pozuelo Natural Reserve is one of the central nuclei of the RBI, which reinforces its fundamental role in conservation and ecological balance.

With these initiatives, Itaipu reaffirms its commitment to environmental education and sustainable development, providing tools to border communities so that they can actively participate in the conservation of their natural environment and in the construction of a more conscious and balanced future.
