The opposition thanks Borrell for his position on minutes presented by the Carter Center

Caracas, Oct 3 (EFE).- The majority opposition in Venezuela, grouped in the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), thanked this Thursday the high representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union (EU), Josep Borrell, for his position that The minutes shown by the Carter Center reaffirm the EU’s position of not recognizing Nicolás Maduro as the winner of the July 28 presidential elections.

“We appreciate the position of Josep Borrell, high representative of the European Union, regarding the minutes shown at the OAS (Organization of American States) by the Carter Center, who was an international observer of the presidential election in Venezuela,” the PUD said in a message posted on X.

The coalition added that the “sustained support” of the international community for the “decision of the Venezuelan people” is a “clear recognition of the truth contained in each of the minutes that prove the resounding victory of Edmundo González Urrutia on July 28. ».

This Thursday, Borrell explained at a press conference that he learned about the presentation of the voting records shown by the Carter Center in the media.

He stressed that it is a prestigious institution, and that if they present documents that claim to be the electoral records “they will be”, since he does not believe that they present something that does not faithfully correspond to reality.

“These minutes, together with those presented by the opposition, reflect a result that we have always pointed out, that Maduro did not win the elections and the opposition leader who is currently a refugee in Spain won,” he added in reference to González Urrutia, who will participate this Friday in the Spanish political reflection forum La Toja – Vínculo Atlántico, which has awarded Borrell for his career.

On Wednesday, the Carter Center, a US organization that was an electoral observer in the Venezuelan presidential elections, showed the OAS voting records that point to a victory for González Urrutia.

«It was sent to me by mail, I am going to show it to you after this session so that you can see it. These are original minutes from Venezuela that have a QR code that is significant and that allows witnesses from thousands and thousands of tables to systematically collect information,” said the Carter Center’s senior advisor for Latin America, Jennie Lincoln, during a session of the OAS Permanent Council held in Washington.

According to the minutes presented, the opponent González Urrutia obtained 67% of the votes, while the current president, Nicolás Maduro, had 31%.

The National Electoral Council (CNE) proclaimed Maduro as the winner of these elections, despite the fact that, to date, it has not published the disaggregated results – established in its schedule – that confirm the president’s victory.
