Cruise giant will build luxury hotel in Puerto Williams to revolutionize Antarctic tourism

Silversea, a leader in luxury expedition cruise travel, has announced plans for a new hotel in Puerto Williams, the southernmost city in the world. This 150-room hotel aims to provide guests with a unique opportunity to explore the “White Continent” in luxurious surroundings.

The project is designed to enhance access and comfort for travelers wanting to experience Antarctica. “This new hotel will enable us to offer an unparalleled Antarctic expedition, further enriching our world-class vacation portfolio,” stated Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group.

The hotel will be a crucial component for those participating in Silversea’s cruise program, the Antarctica Bridge fly-cruise program, which provides direct flights from Santiago to Puerto Williams, eliminating the need for a boat crossing of the Drake Passage. “This development reaffirms our commitment to innovation and excellence,” he added, according to Bert Hernandez, president of Silversea.

The hotel will be constructed in partnership with a consortium of Chilean investors and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by partners and government officials.

“By collaborating with experienced teams in Chile, we offer guests a unique opportunity to explore one of the most remote destinations on the planet,” Liberty mentioned.

Located in the Magellan region, Puerto Williams is regarded as the ideal launch point for Antarctic expeditions. Guests will be able to enjoy rugged scenery, snow-covered mountains, and abundant local wildlife, according to the company.

The hotel will feature spectacular views of the Beagle Channel and the Patagonian mountains. Amenities will include a restaurant, a bar, a gym, and a gift shop showcasing local crafts. “We are excited to enhance the travel experience to Antarctica,” Hernández emphasized.

Silversea is the sole cruise line operating in Port Williams during the Antarctic season, giving it a competitive edge in the region. This new venture will enable the company to strengthen its leadership in the luxury expedition market, which it has been developing for over 15 years.

The hotel also intends to blend seamlessly with the natural and cultural landscape of Puerto Williams through architectural designs that utilize local and traditional materials. The company has expressed its dedication to the economic development of the local community while preserving the area’s cultural and natural heritage.

Base hotel for luxury expeditions

Furthermore, the hotel will serve as the base for Silversea’s most luxurious expedition ships, including Silver Endeavor, Silver Wind, and Silver Cloud, which will offer Antarctic voyages ranging from six to 20 days. Expeditions will be led by a team of specialists, with a crew-to-guest ratio of nearly 1:1, ensuring personalized service.

Silversea also highlighted that the new hotel will allow travelers to enjoy the same high-quality service that distinguishes its expedition cruises, complete with butlers assigned to each suite and spacious accommodations.
