‘Color in sad moments’: Art to aid flood victims

After the devastation of floods, like other walks of life, artists are also organizing an exhibition in Karachi to contribute, while sculptors in Quetta are eager to help by selling their sculptures.

The artist Sharjeel Baloch, who organized the exhibition named ‘Adas Lamhun Mein Rang’ at the Ocean Art Gallery in Karachi from September 15, while talking to the Independent, said that for the exhibition, well-known artists across the country from their 70s have so far Additional artworks have been donated.

According to Sharjeel Baloch: ‘These artists have donated their selected works of art which will be displayed in this exhibition, the proceeds from the sale of which will go towards flood relief. Ocean Art Gallery has also provided free space for this exhibition.

‘This is the largest such display of flooding ever. An artist has a month’s worth of art, but despite this, these artists have donated their table to the flood victims.

This exhibition is for the relief of flood victims. In the second phase, an even bigger exhibition will be held to raise funds for the permanent rehabilitation of the flood victims and the reconstruction of their homes.

On the other hand, Quetta-based sculptor Ishaq Lahri, who started making statues of 100 celebrities from Balochistan and Pakistan a month ago, will dedicate the proceeds from their possible auction to flood victims. have intended to do.

He said that as soon as they started making the statues, rains started in Balochistan and throughout the country.

After which the flood engulfed many areas and displaced the people there.

Ishaq Lahri said that ‘my goal was to pay tribute to the hundred people who have done something for the people here in one way or another.’

Ishaq says that ‘I started this series a month ago. Then the rains started and the floods came. So I, who initially made some sculptures, decided to auction them and collect the money for the flood victims’ funds.

Ishaq said that he has made eight sculptures so far. Four to five more are in the pipeline.

He said that these sculptures are like portraits, so I am trying to make them quickly. Maybe make 20 to 25.

He said that my aim is that those who are lovers of these leaders should buy these statues and the money we get should be spent on these flood victims.

Isaac said that the difficulty is that when you do big work, it becomes difficult to cover the rent of a studio or any space and the work is not so much.

Ishaq said that this is the reason why now I am doing this work at home.

He adds that ‘those who are doing it like this will also leave it after some time if they don’t get acceptance. We are often advised that this is not legally correct. So give it up.’
