let’s join forces for Pink October

In 2024, Pink October will once again mobilize the whole of France to fight against breast cancer. The campaign focuses on three key objectives: encouraging early detection, supporting research and supporting patients. Many events will mark this solidarity month.

Objectives of the Pink October campaign

In 2024, the campaign continues with a simple message:

the importance of early detection, breast cancer research, and support for patients.

This event is based around a large number of mobilizations and donation collections to finance research and support women affected by breast cancer. From year to year, breast cancer care evolves and makes it possible to improve care by increasing the chances of recovery. The awareness campaign is based around earlier detection and therefore helps reduce the number of deaths.

This period of mobilization also facilitates information in order to avoid late diagnoses. In fact, one in eight women develop breast cancer during their lifetime. It is therefore important to know how to detect the signs in time and to provide appropriate care quickly. Today, breast cancer is very treatable when caught in time, so the prevention campaign continues and will continue until October 31.

Some key figures:

61,214 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in France. The screening participation rate in 2023 was approximately 48.2%. Screening reduces breast cancer mortality by 15 to 20%. 9 out of 10 breast cancers are cured when detected in time. Read also – 4 simple steps to master breast self-examination

Pink October program

This year, the Eiffel Tower, the obelisk on Place de la Concorde, Place Vendôme, as well as the National Assembly will be lit in pink throughout the month of October. At the national level, a major program is being organized in all French cities and small towns around the fight against breast cancer.

The launch show is broadcast on television on September 30. Odysséa offers 13 charity running races in Nantes, Marseille, Cannes, etc. (see the races organized in your city, go to the website Odyssey.info) Partnerships with local businesses are organized independently, around a common solidarity project. Charity sales, conferences and workshops are accessible throughout France.

Everyone can organize an awareness-raising action, in conjunction with public actors (hospitals, media libraries, festival committees, etc.), local associations and private companies. The struggle began in 1993 and continues to grow. The collective commitment around Pink October shows the importance of this cause and the constant need to raise awareness, whether through local actions, sporting events or participation in conferences. This mobilization reminds us that early detection and solidarity are essential in the battle against breast cancer.

Preventive actions for breast cancer

Preventive measures against breast cancer begin at age 25, with an annual palpation carried out by a health professional. Between the ages of 50 and 74, a mammogram every two years, accompanied by an annual palpation, is recommended. These examinations are fully covered by Social Security and provide essential early detection in the fight against breast cancer, which still remains the leading cause of death among women to this day.

From the age of 50, each woman receives an awareness reminder about breast cancer screening, accompanied by a voucher and the list of approved radiologists in their department. These simple actions make it possible to detect anomalies more quickly and increase the chances of recovery.
