You can create a B5 size manuscript using WAORD or PowerPoint, set the booklet on an EPSON printer, and create a B6 size booklet by imposition. The B6 size booklet fits in the special Yu Packet Post Mini envelope, so it is recommended for doujinshi sales.
How to create a saddle-stitched booklet with imposition 1
- Setting B5 size paper in WAOR or PowerPoint
- Manuscript creation
- Print settings on EPSON printers
- Printer settings: Basic settings > Paper size > B5
- Page settings: Duplex printing > Duplex printing (automatic) – Long edge binding
- Binding settings: (for vertical writing) Close right long > Booklet
- Load B5 paper in the printer and print
When you set the binding method for the booklet, two pages are automatically allocated on B5 paper and printed as a B6 size booklet.
Furthermore, the page layout is automatically rearranged so that it can be read when double-sided printing is performed with saddle stitching. (This process is called imposition.)
I use a printer called EPSON’s EP-932A3, and I can easily print a saddle-stitched B6 booklet using the method described above. After printing, staple the pages using a saddle stitching stapler that can be purchased at 100 yen shops to complete your booklet.

How to create a saddle-stitched booklet with imposition 2
The method described above uses WORD’s functions to create an imposition. This method uses the printer’s functions for imposition, so it is possible to use PowerPoint or PDF other than Word.
However, it depends on the printer, so it may not work with printers other than the one I am using. This is EPSON’s EP-982A3. It is the most cost-effective printer that can print up to A3 while manually feeding it, and is also network compatible.

- For example, create slides with a B5 manuscript in PowerPoint

Just by doing this, it will automatically impose the page on B6 size (4 pages on both sides of B5 paper) as shown in the top image. The layout of the pages is also perfect.
The paper used for double-sided printing is B5 and thick.

However, surprisingly, there are not many types of paper thickness for B5, and there are almost no options.

However, if you print with an inkjet printer, the back side will show through, so the paper must be at least 0.12mm thick. Of course, the ideal size would be suitable for double-sided printing, but if you do that, the cost performance will be poor, with each page costing more than 10 yen.

Currently, I think the above paper is safe in terms of cost performance. If you don’t mind the high price, print-on-demand services such as Shimashima Publishing are really cheap these days. One book starts at 270 yen.
